Tags: IIT Madras, India, Energy & Environment, Science & Exploration
IIT Madras has developed an offshore floating wave-solar hybrid energy converter system that combines wave energy and solar photovoltaic generation for efficient and economical power production. The system uses a floating buoy and spar platform to harness wave motion, converting it into electrical energy while solar panels on the buoy enhance energy generation. Applications include powering underwater drones, subsea sensors, offshore communication equipment, and drilling platforms. Its simplified design reduces manufacturing costs compared to conventional systems and provides a sustainable power solution for offshore regions. A granted patent (IN 529207) protects this innovative technology, emphasizing its contribution to renewable energy.
