Low-cost and Eco-friendly High-voltage Aqueous Electrolyte
Tags: The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Energy & Environment
This technology introduces a water-based electrolyte that expands the voltage window of water from 1.23V to 3.2V, resulting in a higher energy density of 110 Wh/kg. It offers a safer, non-flammable, and eco-friendly alternative to commercial non-aqueous electrolytes used in Li-ion batteries. Applications include portable electronics, electric vehicles, and grid energy storage for renewable energy. The electrolyte is cost-effective, utilizing low concentrations of non-toxic polyethylene glycol and Li salts. This innovation addresses market demands for safer and more sustainable battery solutions.
