This technology repurposes terbinafine, an FDA-approved antifungal drug, as a novel treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-associated liver cancer. By inhibiting the oncogenic factor SQLE, terbinafine has shown effectiveness in animal models, significantly suppressing tumor growth and improving survival without side effects. This therapeutic approach offers potential applications in treating liver cancer linked to NAFLD. It presents a promising solution for a condition that currently lacks targeted therapy.
