Researchers at IIT Delhi have developed a spintronic terahertz (THz) emitter capable of producing high-intensity radiation at frequencies beyond current 6G technology. The device, made from a bilayer of semimetal platinum and cobalt, generates THz pulses near 10^12 Hz and operates efficiently at room temperature. Applications include revolutionizing medical imaging with non-invasive techniques and enhancing telecommunications with faster, more secure wireless networks. The device addresses limitations of existing sources like narrow bandwidths and low emission strength.
