Wireless Charging Unit Including Tunnelling Magnetoresistance Sensors
Tags: IIT Madras, India, Transportation & Automotive, Infrastructure, Utilities & Communications
IIT Madras has developed a wireless charging unit with tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors that improve power transfer efficiency for electric vehicles (EVs). The system detects and identifies different charging pad types while preventing energy loss by avoiding non-chargeable metallic objects. It utilizes magnetic sensing, making it resistant to dust, snow, and humidity while enabling seamless EV charging. Applications include smart EV charging stations that enhance safety and operational efficiency. The technology has been validated in laboratory conditions and has a granted patent (IN 536149).
