CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute [CSIR-NEERI]: The Phyto-Pee-Khad is an innovative, portable system designed to convert human urine into fertilizer through a three-stage process. It begins with a urine collection system that channels waste into a treatment unit, where plants and creepers perform phytoremediation, reducing nutrient loads before disposal. The final stage uses an absorbent unit to extract nitrogen and phosphorus from the treated urine, transforming them into usable fertilizer. This technology addresses global sanitation challenges and can be applied in rural areas, urban settings, and public spaces. The system also provides aesthetic value through its green wall feature.
