Jet Noise Suppressor for Quieter, Efficient Engine
Swirl Number Selection for Reduction of Various Forms of Jet Noise
Tags: IIT Madras, India, Transportation & Automotive, Energy & Environment
IIT Madras has developed a device and method to reduce jet engine noise using a co-axial vane swirler with adjustable swirl numbers. The technology enhances mixing between jet and ambient fluids, effectively reducing noise sources like turbulence, shock-associated noise, screech tones, and Mach wave radiation. Applications include noise suppression in aerospace and automotive industries. This innovation improves acoustic performance and reduces environmental noise pollution, ensuring quieter and more efficient engine operation. The technology is protected by a granted patent (IN 454509), validating its novel approach.
