A data-smart power meter technology optimizes IoT-generated data by pruning redundant information while maintaining accuracy within user-defined error limits. It exploits temporal and cross-parameter redundancies, reducing communication bandwidth usage and cloud storage needs. The system supports both single and multivariate data streams, enabling efficient data collection in adjustable time intervals. Applications include smart power meters for real-time monitoring and grid optimization. A functional prototype has been developed and validated in a laboratory setting.
