Industrial Waste as Catalyst to Upcycle Plastic into Fuel
Environmentally Friendly Catalytic Depolymerization Focusing on Managing Plastic Waste at Source
Tags: IIT Madras, India, Energy & Environment
This innovation introduces an eco-friendly catalytic depolymerization process targeting plastic waste management through a novel pyrolysis technique. Using waste from various industries as catalysts such as waste graphite (forging industry), brake wire powder (automobile industry), foundry sand (foundries), furnace slag (iron and steel industries), pyrolyzed slag (pyrolysis plant), fly ash (thermal power plants), it efficiently converts plastic into fuel oil, optimizing costs and enhancing yield. The process is designed for waste management applications, particularly in transforming plastic waste into valuable resources. It represents a significant step forward in addressing environmental challenges associated with plastic waste.
