Dr. Terence Shum Chun-tat of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at OU received HK$357,159 in funding to study the quality of life among South Asian elderly in Hong Kong. This research focuses on how factors like family obligations, ethnic community dynamics, and return migration aspirations impact life satisfaction for South Asian older adults, including those of Indian, Pakistani, and Nepalese descent. Findings aim to inform a multicultural approach to active ageing policies in Hong Kong, addressing unique cultural needs and expectations. Potential applications include policy development for enhanced support systems and inclusive social programs for aging minority groups. The project highlights the importance of culturally sensitive approaches to improve elderly well-being in diverse societies.
