Hydrogen from PET Waste: Sustainable Catalytic Process
Catalytic Process for Hydrogen Production from Polymeric Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Waste
Tags: IIT Indore, India, Energy & Environment
A catalytic process has been developed for the one-pot upcycling of PET-based plastic waste to produce high-purity hydrogen gas at low temperatures. This innovation reduces plastic pollution while generating valuable chemicals, promoting sustainable recycling and renewable energy. The process has been validated at the laboratory scale and offers potential applications in clean energy production and waste management. It supports landfill reduction, enhances recycling innovation, and creates job opportunities in sustainable technology. The work has been published in ChemCatChem (2023, 15, e202300574) and has been granted an Indian patent.
