High-Efficiency PFC Charger for Light Electric Vehicles
A Power Factor Correction Converter based Charger for Light Electric Vehicles
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Energy & Environment, Transportation & Automotive
IIT Delhi has developed a power factor correction (PFC) converter-based charger that enhances power quality and efficiency for light electric vehicles. The system provides high step-down gain, achieving a power factor of 1 at the AC mains while reducing distortions by 45% compared to existing chargers. It offers a general-purpose charging solution for various battery pack ratings in electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Applications include efficient and cost-effective EV charging with improved energy utilization. A functional prototype has been developed and tested in a laboratory setting, with an Indian patent application filed (202011056960).
