Photonic Microwave Generation Apparatus and Method
Tags: National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, Electronics & Robotics, Infrastructure, Utilities & Communications
This technology uses an optical frequency comb to inject light into a semiconductor laser, generating periodic non-linear dynamics for microwave signal generation. The system narrows the microwave signal's linewidth to 1 Hz through phase-locking harmonic sidebands of the optical frequency comb. It creates adjustable, high-frequency microwave signals with fixed power and enhanced stability. Applications include optical fiber communication, satellite communication, and microwave signal processing. This innovation offers advantages over traditional electronic microwave generation, such as high-frequency bandwidth and no electromagnetic interference.
