SUTD researchers, in collaboration with Aalto University, have developed a design-based activity called the electrochemistry designette, which enhances student understanding in electrochemistry through hands-on learning. This activity challenges students to build voltaic devices, enabling them to demonstrate electrochemical concepts and allowing instructors to quickly identify and address misconceptions. Applications include improved instructional approaches in electrochemistry and STEM education. Over 400 students have successfully engaged with this tool, which has shown promise in fostering both comprehension and creativity. Future goals include adapting the designette for remote learning and expanding its use across educational levels.
