CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute [CSIR-CLRI]: This invention introduces a plant-based, leather-like material made from agricultural waste such as sugarcane straw and rice straw, designed for use in textiles, leather, packaging, and lifestyle products. The process involves alkaline hydrolysis, enhanced by microwave irradiation and thermo-mechanical heating, followed by the addition of eco-friendly polymers. The material is formed into flexible sheets, surface-coated using leather finishing techniques, and is produced with zero waste discharge. This eco-friendly and cost-effective material offers a sustainable alternative to traditional leather in various industries. Applications include textiles, leather goods, and packaging solutions.
