Eco-Friendly Peanut Shell Dye for Antimicrobial Textiles
Development of a New Multifunctional Natural Textile Dye from Peanut Shell Extract
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Consumer Goods & Services, Industrial Automation & Manufacturing
A natural textile dye derived from peanut shell extract has been developed as an eco-friendly alternative to toxic synthetic dyes. This process enhances wool fabrics with vibrant yellowish hues, excellent color retention, and multifunctional properties such as antimicrobial and UV protection. The dyeing method includes both direct application and metal ion-assisted processes to improve durability through multiple laundering cycles. Applications include baby clothing, sportswear, carpets, and disposable wipes. A functional prototype has been developed and tested in a laboratory environment.
