Eco-Friendly Metal-Organic Frameworks for API Production
Catalytic Technology for Sustainable Production of Chiral Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Healthcare & Lifesciences
Researchers at IIT Delhi have developed a catalytic technology for the sustainable and cost-effective production of chiral Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). This technology, funded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), uses Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and abundant metals, reducing dependence on expensive and toxic catalysts traditionally used in the industry. The developed catalysts facilitate the selective synthesis of enantiopure chiral molecules, essential in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and biologically active compounds. The innovation promises to decrease India's reliance on imported APIs, lowering input costs and benefiting society. Applications include the domestic production of enantiomerically pure APIs in the pharmaceutical sector.
