ANU has developed an innovative capsule-based in-vitro protein expression system using E. coli lysate, termed eCells, which simplifies and economizes protein synthesis. This method allows full environmental control and can produce large amounts quickly, overcoming traditional CFPS's (Cell-Free Protein Synthesis) consistency and cost issues. eCells can be used in biocatalysis, environmental sensing, nanotechnology and bioremediation, showcasing versatile applications. This technology streamlines recombinant protein production, offering an efficient, scalable, and environmentally friendly alternative.
