Vacuum System for High-speed Transportation
Tags: IIT Madras, India, Transportation & Automotive, Construction & Smart Cities
Researchers at IIT Madras have developed a vacuum system for Hyperloop transportation that minimizes energy loss by eliminating air drag. This system comprises a non-permeable metal-lined tube supported by a load-bearing concrete tube, connected via shear studs to efficiently transfer loads. Its innovative design reduces reliance on costly materials, offers customization options for the outer concrete casing, and enables cost-effective manufacturing. The vacuum system supports modular construction and high-speed transport applications. Collaboration involves expertise from aerospace and civil engineering departments, with patents filed both domestically and internationally.
