Compact Tunable Liquid Lens for Adaptive Optics & Imaging
A Membrane-Less Variable Focus Liquid Lens and an Imaging Device
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Consumer Goods & Services, Electronics & Robotics
A tunable, membrane-less liquid lens has been developed using a mechanical-wetting approach, allowing manual actuation via a linear actuator such as a screw or piston. The lens functions by deforming the interface between two immiscible liquids with different refractive indices while maintaining a stable three-phase contact line. This design eliminates complex actuation mechanisms, making it compact, cost-effective, and free from hysteresis and gravity-induced distortions. Applications include consumer electronics, where adaptive optics can enhance imaging devices. A functional prototype has been developed and validated in a simulated environment.
