Cheaper Microalgae Biodiesel, Faster Biomass Now Possible
Nutrient Medium Composition for Mass Cultivation of Microalgae
Tags: BITS Pilani, India, Energy & Environment, Transportation & Automotive
The innovation is a low-cost synthetic nutrient medium for mass cultivation of microalgae, designed to increase biomass growth and lipid productivity. This addresses the high costs associated with microalgae-based biodiesel, making it more economically competitive and enhancing its industrialization prospects. The nutrient medium supports higher growth rates and lipid content, reducing overall biodiesel production costs. Applications include commercial microalgae biomass and biodiesel production. The innovators are from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and Science - Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.
