The treatment process for cellulose-based geotextiles involves preparing an aqueous alkaline solution and reacting it with a coal combustion by-product to create a polymerized blend, which is then applied to the geotextile fiber. This innovative method enhances the durability of natural geotextiles. Applications include sustainable construction of reinforced foundation beds and slope stability. The process offers significant improvements over existing technologies. The inventors are from the Department of Civil Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology & Science - Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.
