Braces for Improved Seismic Resistance in Buildings, Bridges
Low-Cost Buckling Restrained Braces That Can Improve Earthquake Resistance of Structures
Tags: IIT Delhi, India, Construction & Smart Cities
Researchers at IIT Delhi have developed low-cost, super-elastic buckling-restrained braces (HBRBs) to enhance the earthquake resistance of structures. These braces feature all-steel components, onsite fabrication, easy post-earthquake inspection, and replacement. Applications include improving seismic performance in buildings and bridges, both for new constructions and retrofitting existing structures. The braces offer higher strength, excellent ductility, and better energy dissipation potential. A patent has been filed for this technology.
