CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology [CSIR-NIIST]: This invention describes a biodegradable, hydrophobic, and moisture-tolerant bio-resin coating for paper, designed to replace plastic liners in packaging. The coating is synthesized from epoxides of castor oil and applied to cellulosic paper through condensation, making it suitable for packaging fatty foods and beverages. The coated paper is both repulpable and biodegradable, allowing for reuse after consumption. The process is green, cost-effective, and industrially viable. Applications include sustainable packaging solutions that require moisture and grease resistance.
