AI Retinal Tools Screen for Kidney Disease, Biological Age
AI Screening Tools Use Eyes to Screen for Chronic Kidney Disease, Assess Biological Health

Scientists at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) have developed two AI tools, RetiKid and RetiAge, that use retinal scans to assess kidney health and biological age. RetiKid detects chronic kidney disease by analyzing blood vessels in the retina, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional blood and urine tests. RetiAge estimates biological age to provide insights into a patient's overall health and aging process, which could indicate systemic disease risks. Both tools offer faster, more comfortable screening, with RetiKid taking less than an hour and RetiAge about 20 minutes. These technologies aim to improve early detection and intervention, pending clinical trials and Health Sciences Authority approval.
