Affordable Cholesterol Meter for Accurate Lipid Monitoring
Point of Care Device for Total Cholesterol, Triglycerides and HDL Cholesterol
Tags: IIT Bombay, India, Healthcare & Lifesciences
Researchers have developed a point-of-care device that measures total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteins (HDL), and low-density lipoproteins (LDL) using colorimetric strips with enzyme immobilization technology. Designed for ease of use, the device functions similarly to a glucometer and provides an economical solution for lipid monitoring. It eliminates the need for pre-treatment of blood samples and simplifies cholesterol testing for urban and rural populations alike. The prototype is in the clinical validation stage, with successful academic trials completed. This innovation has the potential to improve early detection and management of heart disease risk factors, especially in resource-limited settings.
